About us

A small practice, deliberately.

We are eleven people. Everyone who works on your project is senior, and most of us have spent more time inside operating teams than in consultancies.

Northbay Analytics was founded in 2014 by three engineers who kept being asked the same question by former colleagues: “can you come and look at this for a week and tell us what you think?”

That is still roughly how we work. We take on a small number of engagements at a time, we keep the teams small, and we prefer to leave a client with something their own people can operate rather than something that depends on us.

What we believe

  • Boring technology is usually correct. Novelty has a maintenance cost that is paid by whoever comes next.
  • Write it down. A decision that is not recorded will be re-litigated within a year.
  • Measure before optimising. Most performance work starts from an assumption that turns out to be wrong.
  • Say no. We turn down work we are not the right people for, and we will tell you if a project should not happen.

How we are structured

There are no account managers and no layers between you and the people doing the work. The engineer who scopes the engagement is the engineer who delivers it.

We work remotely across European and US timezones, with a minimum of two overlapping hours per working day. For longer engagements we will travel to you for the kick-off and the hand-over.
